Love you guys for saying this is the best RPG of all time, ToS really had be going ; but it's just ONE of the best, when you got FF7, Suikoden or Chrono Trigger (perhaps some Zelda) along the way, it's hard to choose a "best" one

play Mother 3, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of the abyss, FF I, Breath of fire, Paper mario, Paper Mario 2, Earthbound, FF IV, Earthbound zero, Castlevenia: Symphony of the night, Poke'mon Crystal, Enchanted arms, and finaly Pokemon XD gale of darkness.
Tales of symphonia is good but not the "Best"
the best RPG games ever by catagory are:
Story: Mother3.
Action: Castlevenia: SotN.
Characters: Earthbound.
Puzzles: Paper mario.
Art: Tales of Vesperia.
Voices: Enchanted arms.
