This was a TV ad for the 2005 Des Moines Renaissance Faire. In 2004, the event was supposed to be held in a lovely wooded park but, due to a flood a week before opening, it had to relocate. The new location was a parking lot at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Going on at the same time, just across the way, was some kind of auto racing event (vrooom! vrooom! huzzah!). So, when the event returned in 2005 (at a different part of the State Fairgrounds), this commercial was done as a nod to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the previous year's event :-)
This commercial ran on local TV stations in the weeks leading up to the event. It was shot on Digital8 and edited using iMovie then delivered to the station(s) on DVD, saving the event producer some production money which he could then spend on buying us all beer.
Apparently, this video is considered on of the "50 Greatest Local TV Commercials" by ThePhatPhree.com.
Holy crap. Over 14,000 views? That's probably larger than how many folks saw it when it aired on the actual TV stations back in 2005. Neat. Thanks to those who have linked to it from various blogs. I had no idea.
