An estimated 50,000 people are likely to be displaced by the Sudanese government's proposed Merowe Dam on the River Nile

The government says it is an essential project to counter an acute power shortage. But the Nubian tribe of northern Sudan, who live in the path of the dam project, think differently.

Nearly 50 years ago, dam construction on the Egyptian border wiped out a centuries old way of life.

Mohammed Vall went to northern Sudan, where inhabitants say they are once again under threat.

  • black arabs & chineese are a gay couple.

  • This is a tragedy...

  • it's not only about history. some ancient sites CAN'T be moved to museums like pyramids. these are the type of history we are talking about loads and loads of it. this is why nubia of today looks a mess. pyramids washed away. cracked sculptures. history purposely hidden. the modern day egyptian HATE the brown skin nubian. your land that you have been on for thousands of years will be destroyed by flood. in ancient Egyptian-Nubian culture this is considered a act of total WAR.

  • Yes we have our history and we are proud of it, but it is kept in Museums like any other modern state. Archeological sites can be moved to a safe location. Dominant powers in the west dont like to see Sudan develope, they want to keep developing nations like Sudan behind and underdeveloped to make it easier for them to exploite it and dominate it.

  • @le3unik u still have your history though. what if i were to come in saudi and DUMP flood waters on ALL OVER your past history and ancestors trace of work? u would be ready to kill. this is what's happening to Nubians.

  • long live Nubia but still the Dam will benefit all Sudanese. look at Egypt they got unlimited electricity and they're way developed than Sudan..

  • People have to adapt to modern way of life otherwise they will be left behind. We in Saudi are proud of our heritage but we had to adapt and change in order to develope our nation.
