The engineer at the helm of P42 84 gave a gratuitous blast of the horn as the southbound Carolinian crossed College Avenue and rolled past the Ashland station on September 4th at 12:55 PM. The presence of at least a half-dozen waving railfans might have had something to do with it...

  • Great video. Gotta love the guys that honk in quiet zones.

  • @CPManJoe Yep. In fact, I'd say the only reasons you'd have for NOT hearing a horn in Ashland are - no one's waving, the crew isn't friendly, or nothing's blocking the tracks.

  • Now that's what I'm talking about! Awesome K5LA. Nice to hear blasts like that especially in a quiet zone.

  • @CSXRP Funny thing - on my last visit (August 28th), I killed time before the last train talking to a local who said he lived just a block or two over from the tracks. He couldn't say enough about how he and his wife loved to hear the trains come through, ESPECIALLY when they blew their horns.

  • nice catch, that horn sounded pretty good!

  • @amtrak939 It's no Leslie honker, but it'll do in a pinch. :)
