Clips from Gerald Scarfe's first and very rare animated film. The film was shown once in its entirety by the BBC in 1973 and Scarfe has a video copy of it! These clips are from the 1987 BBC documentary "Scarfe on Scarfe".

More recently BBC4 showed an edited version as part of their "Animation Nation" series. The missing part was the "Super Dollar" section shown here from 0:20 to 2:10.

The full title of the film is:

  • Does anyone know where i can find the "scarfe on scarfe" BBC documentary that this great clip came from? I stumbled across it once on tv. It is incredible. Please share if you can. Thanks for posting this snippet.

  • Yes I have it but unfortunately it's on a Betamax tape and it's a case of wiring up my Beta machine to play it. When I last tried, it was all out of sync when I uploaded it but I shall have another go in due course. Your patience will be rewarded!

  • Excellent request, CZ. I'm uploading it now.

  • cziino:

I've attempted to upload the Scarfe On Scarfe documentary several times now but YouTube simply will not let me. It is absolutely bizzarre! Every time I try, my computer crashes and I get blue screen of death!

What is even stranger is that I recorded it on Betamax back in 1986. I then transferred it to VHS in 1993, yet YouTube WILL NOT ALLOW IT!

I cannot understand it! But if you would like a copy, cziino, then please PM me with your address and I'll send you a DVD.

    Nick

  • Thanks for posting.

It was broadcast in full by the BBC as part of an animation season they showed on BBC4, sometime around 2003.

You're right: Because of Mickey, it's unliely this will ever see a release... at least not with that section intact ;-)

  • Interesting, especially his work on "The Wall". As far as the "vulgar" Americans maybe he should have also done some work on European colonialism. There is is plenty of death, war, disease, pillaging etc etc on that subject.

  • 0.08- Broken Social Scene?

  • scarfe is just fantastic!

  • @nickhirst999 Thanks for posting this! Always wanted to see it. Can you post the entire 16:22 clip?

  • @iheartthemaxx GS: Hey, Roger, back when I first started, I once had this part where a naked woman turned into ice cream and back again -

RW: BRILLIANT! Throw that in, too!

    Love that movie. :)
