Edna St. Vincent Milay, American Bombshell, 1892-1950. This sonnet has to win the prize for the drumroll effect of the second line.

As often will happen when you just carry poems around in your head is that you flub a few llines: I decide just to leave my errors in, even though I could re-record, in the spirit of live energy. Meanwhile I should have said...
'Thus in the winter stands the lonely tree,
Nor knows what birds have vanished one by one,
Yet knows its boughs more silent than before'
