Inserting Audio or MP3 Files into WordPress
Duration: 4 mins 04 secs
In this video, I'm going to show you how to upload and display audio files or mp3 files on your WordPress blog using a very simple WordPress plugin and the flash-based audio player that comes with it.
So the first thing that you need to do is go to Plugins and click on Add New, and then do a search for Audio; okay, and click on Search Plugins. Then look for the plugin called Audio Player, of course, you can see that there are several other mp3 or audio plugins for WordPress but the one that we're looking for is called Audio Player, and then click on Install. So it'll install the plugin automatically to your WordPress blog. Click on Install Now.
Once plugin has been downloaded to your WordPress blog and installed, then you can just click on Activate Plugin to activate it, and if you scroll down on the left-hand column, you should see under Settings, a new link for Audio Player.
Okay. So, how do you display mp3 files, or any type of audio file for that matter, within a WordPress post itself? First, you need to find the post that you want to put the mp3 files into, so let's take this WordPress post and click on Edit.
Okay. So, right above here under Upload or Insert you should see several icons here. The first icon is to add an image, the second is to add a video, and the third is to add audio, so you need to click on the Add Audio icon, and then choose the files that you want to upload.
Once you've found the mp3 file that you want to use, just click on Open, and so now you can see that the mp3 file is being uploaded to my WordPress blog.
And here, you can see the actual location of the mp3 file itself; alright, so you can give this a title, a caption and a description if you want to. Now, there are several ways to put in the mp3 file into your WordPress post itself. The first is to actually just use a file URL, so let me click on File URL, and click on Insert Post.
So now, all you can see is that this is actually just a link to the actual mp3 file, and this is useful if you just want your readers to be able to download the mp3 file, but now we want a streaming player, so I'm gonna click on the Audio icon again, and since I've already uploaded the mp3 file earlier, I'm gonna click on Gallery, and I'm gonna select this mp3 file, "Cityside View," okay...now this time, however, I'm going to choose Audio Player, and then I'm going to insert into Post.
Okay, and here you can see the syntax of the code required to display an audio player on your WordPress blog. I'm just gonna update this post, and now let's click on View Post to see how the audio player looks like.
So this is my sample blog and you can see that this is the audio player for the mp3 file. So I can just click on Play...and that's how you display mp3 files using a streaming audio player on your WordPress blog.
