Yes, but that then saves the lumberknots from dying if he draws curse of death's hold, which you yourself have been assuming he has.

Um, it was because he had two 1/2 deathtouch witches in play, idiot.

And you had 2 lumberknots in play that you needed to protect from curse of death's hold. If he blocked your elf they are both 2/2 and you lost nothing. If he didn't block it then you got in for free damage.

so he blocks my guy, which he definitely would do, and then my lumberknots become 2/2s and still can't attack because he has two deathtouch 1/2s
