tHE FIRST ARTIST TO DO STAGE PERFORMANCE (WITHIN MY KNOWLEDGE) without any microphone. He personally inspects his mridangan fine tuning at Mathala Narayanan shop near kapali temple and kutchery road cutting. Such is the devotion to his profession. What a great artist. He stayed in Mylapore near arundale street and I used to sit in his door step to listen to his practice in the early morning. It is the road that leads to arundale street, I forgot the name. Those opportunities are god sent

Yes I do agree! I do not have Carnatic background and yet from my youth days two names come to my mind straight away- M.S Subbulakshmi & Palghat Mani Iyyer. I took notice of them even in my "pop music " age/stage
I love the pure artistic wizardry of each with Bhaja Govindam by MS - my favourite
