Call Di Lifesaver! Story One: Belleh Uman (a)

Salay is pregnant and has been in the bush chopping wood. When she arrives home her husband Brima accuses her of being lazy. Sally is very young and should still be at school, she tells her friend Angela that she is worried about having the baby and her husband won't let her go to the clinic.

Later on she is at home and lifts something too heavy, she goes into labour and is taken to an untrained TBA (traditional birth assistant). This TBA does not have a uniform or a certificate or any medical supplies. Salay has to lie down on the ground and begins to bleed. The TBA can do nothing and Salay dies.

What would have happened if Brima had been more supportive and Salay had gone to the clinic?
