  • She should have put the pan in the oven upside down, that way the excess oil will drip out and not pool inside.

  • I think vegetable oil not good for seasoning. I have tried that and lard and I think saturated fats make a far better seasoning. I also never us steel wool on my pans.

  • Yeah, but if you turn it upside down in the oven, wont oil drip from the surface of the pan making bubbles on the cooking surface. I saw a guy show that on youtube. That if you use too much oil and then heat it upside down in your oven, the cooking surface because un-smooth because bubbles and droplets form.

  • A sheet of foil on the bottom to catch the dripings works best.

  • True, but then unless you have a pan underneath to collect the excess oil, it'll drip into your oven.
