Lane's 'philosophy' is using logic to determine Truth, and yes we use it to do all those things. If you believe Truth is window dressing (post-modern position), that's a similar, but different argument. What he is arguing is that you cannot scientifically argue ie with your 'facts and evidence', that a 'pleasurable' life can be shown to be 'good' life. You can empirically show that a pleasurable life is pleasure, but you cannot measure it with value.

@CapsHockey100 "Religion is regarded by the simplest common people as true, by the educated as false & by rulers and government as useful."
Not a wiser word said.

@CapsHockey100 Religion is simple. It's an equalizer. It promises justice. It tells the downtrodden, the ignorant, the vile, those on the wrong side of the scales, those of lesser means, lesser intelligence, lesser ability, etc... to continue to live on that simple linear plain, & suffer because their faith will deliver them justice, riches, love & understanding in a non existent afterlife promised by a non existent deity. It's a great way to subjugate. That is all.

@realoverfake The explanation is easy, not the process. Google it and you'll see there are examples of it happening even today that we can observe and study.

@zarkoff45 Thank you, I am now a new sub. :)

@CapsHockey100 No philosophy here from Craig my friend just sophistry. You have them mixed up.

@mattdd05 Oh but KeithR94 says the KJV states 'slaves' as 'servants' so that is all cleared up and good to go. LOL
-
@KeithR94 Ok, so it's okay to beat your 'servant' or sell your daughter into sexual 'servancy'. You are grasping at straws kid, and doing poorly at it.
-
@KeithR94 "It's hard not to assume that many of the authors of the more current Bible versions simply did not like what they read in the KJV or else how it was written. Today's versions has been proven to be watered down versions of the original truthful scriptures. Many people don't know this, but reading the KJV is more accurate."
So by your logic of reduction, KJV is more watered down & based on man than even earlier renditions right?
-
@KeithR94 Basically you're argument is that anyone who doesn't read the KJV that you read is "wrong"? There are 33,000 denominations of Christianity, according to the Christian online encyclopedia. The KJV was put together in 1611. Unless you have good reason to assume that the KJV is more accurate than others, and your belief is superior to the other 33,000 it seems that you're straw-manning the argument. And btw all Bible saw this stuff, the semantics are unimportant.
@CapsHockey100
What philosophy do we allow us to talk on a forum on the internet? What philosophy do we use to make breakfast? What philosophy do we use to go to work? What philosophy do we use to get more yield per acre of crops? What philosophy do we use to develop the medicines that cure diseases that used to kill us? What philosophy do we use to know the facts that we know about the universe, the sun and the earth. Philosophy without facts and evidence is window dressing.

William Lane Craig suggests that anyone who doesn't get their authority from a book written about a deity is not qualified to argue philosophy. So they why even have philosophers/lawyers or laws? Why not just follow the Bible's laws? Oh yeah, because according to the Bible: SLAVERY should be legal, RAPE should be punishable by a fine of 30 pieces of silver, and the rapist be required to marry the victim. KILLING of non-believers & entire cities is encouraged....Oh yeah...that's why.
