A song performed by such groups as The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem; The Dubliners; The Spinners and many others. According to Wikipedia, The Holy Ground is a local place name in the town of Cobh, County Cork, on the southern coast of Ireland. The name is ironic, the piece of ground known as the Holy Ground was once the town's red-light district in the 19th century when the town, then known as Queenstown, was a major stopping point for ships crossing the Atlantic and had a large throughput of seafarers.

  • I was busy enjoying the delicate finger picking and smooth voice and suddenly "FINE GIRL YOU ARE!" haha.. caught me by surprise!

  • When this song is sung in a bar or a concert, the chorus is always a raucous event and the 'FINE GIRL YOU ARE' is usually shouted out both where I put it and at the end of each chorus too, but I decided only to use it at the beginning of the chorus.
