I heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago in church. It moved me so much, I knew I needed to learn it. I was surprised to find out it is a relatively new hymn by Stuart Townend. However, even though I've been practicing it and memorizing it for weeks, I didn't realize until I put it up on You Tube, that I was not singing the melody properly until I listened to someone else's recording of it! So I took it down and tried it again, and uploaded an improved version. But, when I compared it to the other recording, I realized I still didn't get it quite right, so I took it down again! This is my third attempt, so I think I'll leave this one up whether it's right or not! Thanks for your patience! I hope it blesses you in spite of me.

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the holy One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was His love that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
(REPEAT)

  • Nicely done. Is there any chance you would post just the music on youtube? You play so sweetly. Thanks!

  • @amme2112 You mean and instrumental version? Perhaps, some day. I'd have to work up an arrangement for solo guitar with some variations, otherwise it would sound rather redundant after the first or second time through!

  • This is an extremely good acoustic rendition Mr. Marti. Very very well done. Blessings upon you sir. Gave me a tear or two. Thank you.

  • I know how you feel. The first few times I tried to sing it, I got a little choked up myself. Kind of puts you there at the cross, but knowing what we know now. "Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers..."

  • Do you have the tablature for this?

  • Sorry, no. All I have is a chord chart. If you'd like the chord chart pleas PM me your e-mail address.

  • @dcntexas1 Thanks, Doug. A good Spirit is the only spirit I'm interested in. I'm grateful you see evidence of Him.

  • Wow, now that was awesome. May the Lord richly bless you and yours and protect those guitar hands. Again, I say, Wow. Numbers 6:24-26 Mike
