if you use it like shown in horizontal format, you only need one rail! Only if put in portraitformat, then your setup makes sense. What you dont get from RRS is a clickstop-panoplate, so its not very comfortable.
Sweet demo, Nice kit. Bought myself a RRS BH-55 ballhead for my birthday. Getting (or giving it to myself) this week. They sent me their catalog, too. Everything about RRS screams quality.
@dmarston1234 -> He is using a panoramic adapter which can be found from many suppliers. The reason for using such an adapter is that you want to find the nodal-point of the lens so that you can make perfect panoramic pictures. If you do not level your ca, like that you may get ghost pictures by stitching your pics.
Dan - the multi-rail setup is for aligning the nodal point in your lens with the exact pivot point on your tripod, so that you can shoot perfectly aligned panoramic images... If you try to shoot panos of anything relatively close without adjusting the pivot point/nodal point relationship, your images won't line up properly.

Why cant you just attach the camera directly to the ball head ? why need a two plate contraption. I dont see the benefit.
thanks
