The 93rd Midshipman commissioning and short service commission (SSC) class passing out parade was held at PNSA Rahbar. The Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir also attended the ceremony. As many as 56 midshipmen including three foreigners-two from Saudi Arab and one from Palestine- passed out alongwith 38 of the SSC class that included 21 females. Speaking on the occasion, the Defence Minister told those passing out that they have joined a truly demanding profession. He exhorted them to strive hard in order to keep pace with the rapid technological advancement in the domain of modern warfare. Choudhry Ahmed Mukhtiar said that as the Naval officers `You are a symbol of sovereignty of Pakistan's maritime frontiers'. He said that Pakistan is a peace-loving nation and that is willing to go an extra mile to resolve all the contentious issue with our neighbours through negotiations and dialogues. However, the Defence Minister pointed out, the desire for peaceful settlement of the issues must not be taken as a sign of weakness. He further pointed out that our armed forces and vibrant Pakistani nation are fully capable to safeguard the ideological as well as the territorial sovereignty of our country. Coundhry Ahmed Mukhtar also made it very clear that Pakistan does not want an arms race in the region. He stated that our strategic and conventional capabilities are focused towards legitimate defence needs as well as the promotion of peace. The Defence Minister also praised the participation of the Pakistan Navy in the coalition maritime campaign towards the cause of international peace. He also inspected the commissioning term and gave away prizes to the winners. The sword of honour went to Midshipman Bilal Yasir Alvi for his all round performance. The Academy Dirk was awarded to Midshipman Shazil Tahir whereas Chairman Joint Chiefs' Staff Committee Gold Medal was conferred on Cadet Owais Ahmed Khan while the Commandant Gold Medal was given to Cadet Ms. Faryal Naz Ibrahim.
