The final song from the Kitchens OD gig at The Flapper & Firkin, Birmingham, 30/05/96. For me, this is the ultimate version of Mad as Snow. Play this loud and Julian's guitar part has much more structure than any other version, and my gods that howlling, melancholic sound. It's like being naked on the moors, screaming at the sky.
Play it Loud!
Even in mono this trips around your head.

  • I saw them play this at the Manchester Roadhouse around 1994. At the crescendo of the track they had this psychedelic light show behind them. It was the most amazing live song i have ever seen. This doesn't do justice to the wall of sound you experienced when you were actually there!

  • I agree. That was the 'Death of Cool@ tour I think. I bailed on that tour as I had horrible, self-pitying flu, and first got to taste Mad as Snow, at Jilly's the next year, when Dan almost missed the opening, because me, Matt and the band were obsessively playing Puzzle-Bobble. Gaspanda, a tip: Play this again, horribly loud. I know I'm biased, but if you play it loud enough, this mono recording is damn evocative.

  • What was I thinking, it must have been the Cowboys tour, as I did go to the Death of Cool tour.

  • amazing band - how d he do it? which pedals?

post anvil and all of it.

they were a word of mouth band - like a secret discovery. the best.

  • Unfortunately Anvil is 11 minutes long. I may have to do a fade-out. I think there's a 10 min limit on here, but I'll see what I can do. I couldn't tell you about the pedals. I was off my tits and filming with one eye on the view finder and the other avoiding being danced into, or in front of. Watch carefully and you may get a glimpse when Jules has a fiddle.

  • Nice, never heard of these guys before, thank you.

  • yes it was the cowboys tour, I think the new record had just come out - so it might have even been early 95 but my memory is a bit hazy now

  • this is absolutely beautiful.

  • The sonic power of this tune rivals anything My Bloody Valentine ever did. And thats a compliment. What a great band. I've listened to this song over a thousand times. Wish I could have seen it live. Thanks for the post.

  • Absolutely, i think your clip is amazing!

I remember thinking at the start of the gig i hoped they would play this song but i couldn't imagine how they could possibly do it live. But it was just on another level.

  • i love this band

  • kill me !!! i love tz song !!!!!!!!
