Is there a difference between the Big Pilot and Classic Pilot? Or are they they same thing?

@spacitydrummer4JC The Big Pilot is part of the Classic Pilot family. IWC separates the pilot watches into 2 categories: Classic and Spitfire. Check out IWC's website if you want to know more.

@jsainzh that sure is the movement of the older pilot chrono (3706), the 3706 is 39mm in size and uses caliber 7922. The pilot chrono you're talking about is probably the newer one (3717) which is 42mm and uses caliber 79320. The 79320 is plain and not gold plated like the one posted in this vid which is a 7922.

@bowcapp I remember something about it being the same movement found in the IWC Portuguese Chronograph, am I right about this?

@handelsjan no the movements are actually dfifferent, in the pilot chrono, the second-hand subdial is at 9 o'clock (standard 7750 layout) and has 25 jewels, in the portuguese chrono the second-hand subdial has been moved from 9 to 6 o'clock and I think the movement has 31 jewels.

@handelsjan I think the portuguese chrono's movement is modified to a greater extent than the pilot chrono but both are based on a valjoux 7750.

@bowcapp True. It was the modified 7750 that got me confused. Even though I look at my watch several times per day, I still didn't consider that the layout of the pilot is different from it :-)
