Hitchens Vs. Alterman Debate Part 5/6 'Is Hitchens Wrong About Everything?'

Christopher Hitchens makes his Bloggingheads debut in an entertaining, ego-intensive debate with Eric Alterman.

At the onset, Alterman explains that he was asked to choose a topic for the affair and decided upon: "Why Christopher has been wrong about virtually everything he's said and done since he became a conservative."

Hitchens responds, "Though It's a high price to pay, since the subject is how wrong I am, at least the subject is me, so that's something I guess."

The two discuss the Iraq war, liberalism, and Hitchens' support for Ralph Nader in 2000.

Hitchens has been pretty outspoken against how Israel has handled the conflict in Gaza at least. And no offense, but the man would crush you in a debate. Even if I myself disagree with some of his views, he's a fucking master debater.

@AlwaysReason I am not sure I can agree with you that Christopher Hitchens is smart.  He is brilliant, and engaging, and funny-- the qualities more of a cynosure than of a cynic. Even his political enemies (many of whom include former comrades on the Left) attest to his charm and intelligece. Maybe you have seen a side of him that others (including me) have not, but you must have a greater insight into him than even Hitchens' ex-friends. Maybe you do, but I have yet to see evidence of that.

@writersblock26 I don't know why he's dissapointed; cynics just are. They gave up on something, some idea or something they thought was good at one time and now they call it naive, irrational or dangerous, whatever. In their core there's a hole, something lost. It makes them twist their arguments to fit their view of the world, now way too negatively emotionally charged. It makes them spiteful, vengeful mocking, basically everything Hitchens is. It's a shame. He's really smart.

@AlwaysReason Why would Christopher Hitchens be "dissapointed with life in general"? After all, he's gotten to do what he wanted, i.e., live a life of ideas and argument, and after a lifetime of dedication to his craft, he finally received public recognition for his work.
