Community Members from a vast spectrum of Activism, and Concerned Citizens Joined The Homeless as they set to Occupy Buildings, due to the City's constant neglect of the homeless epidemic crisis going on in the city to demand immediate and permanent housing for all.
They've occupied a building and the community has vowed to continue until justice and equality is shared mutually and everyone is afforded decent housing.

  • The developers and those involved with the corruption of the construction industry in NY have the politicians in their back pocket. As long as those forces and alliances exist, I see very little resolution to this issue. As I mention before, this has been going on for over three decades.

  • Yes there are lot of abandon building in NYC. But this is nothing new. This has been going since the late 70s. Many of these buildings have been abandon for 25+ years if not longer. I hardly see any new developments in NY especially tax-credit projects that are available to individuals and families based on a % of their income. If you do see any kind of development it's just as they said luxury condos, no affordable housing units. 2011 and no resolution yet!

  • @MegaCrazycatt I agree and well aware, I don't think that is what I was conveying. I don't live in a box and covered from the realities of life, believe me.

  • Check out the videos on here on tent cities. You will see alot of this. Hopefully this will never happen to the people who are being critical of those who have no education

  • @brooklynlulu There are alot of educated people out there who can't find work; so its not just the poor anymore. There are alot of people out there who were making $80,000 a year; iving in nice homes; in nice neighborhoods; and now they are living in tents. I've been at classes at my local workforce center; and alot of people (Highly Educated people) involved in new construction and they can't find a job doing anything; so the uneducated are not the only ones suffering anymore

  • uneducated people crying because they choose to sleep in class while in high school, now they are suffering

everyone has the chance to go to college and get an education, you choose to fuck your life up

  • bitch.... get a job.

  • I'm happy to see these people taking action and wish them the best. As the gentleman said, housing is a fundamental right that everyone deserves and no one should have to sleep on the floor. What makes me so angry is that the government is able to give those wall street bankers millions in compensation for running their companies into the ground, and yet they can't open up these "abandoned" buildings for those who need it most. Welcome to the ugly world of capitalism.

  • This inspires me to get more involved, because after all, it effect's all of us, doesn't it? I am on the doorstep of becoming one of the new homeless due to not being able to find work after being laid off and unemployment is running out for me, it's a shame in such a huge great City, I feel I have no where to go but down. I have worked for years and at this point, have absolutely nothing to show for it. Shame.

  • yes there are alot of abandon buildings in new york
