Well, having just gone through the process of getting married, I thought I'd pull out an old idea that I've had for ages, and adapt it to a marriage context. People were asking me if my wedding was going to be a traditional church wedding - well, no. :)

SCRIPT FOR THIS VIDEO: http://www.nonstampcollector.com/corinthians
Many others linked from http://www.nonstampcollector.com/main

The point of the video - the bible is as good a source of information on the topic of LOVE, as any ancient desert scribblings. Sure, taken on its own, 1 Cor 13:4-7 is very nice, but not as nice as other descriptions of love that human beings have come up with. And anyway - would you take advice about love from someone whose biography revealed them to be an appallingly UNLOVING character in the first place?
The bible demolishes itself as a useful source for anything, other than an anthropological study in the history of metaphysical wonderings, superstition, ignorance, and delusion. When you read the words on the pages of the bible, what you actually see is horror, fear, violence, anger, rage, jealousy (fuck it, I think jealousy is a pretty low emotion/characteristic), pettiness, death, fear, - the very worst of human nature.

Just because there are a couple of nice sentences scattered throughout it to doesn't make up for the bulk of it being so revolting.

It's not as if nobody has ever come up with a better description of love than St. Paul. Anyone could. Many have. Let's leave the bible in the dustbox of history.

A few weak points in this video? Yeah, probably. eg, the fine line between envy and jealousy, whether or not god condones smashing babies to pieces on rocks. They're certainly worth bringing up, and it's not as if the bible isn't already an impossibly mistranslated, confused self-contradictory document. I'm not claiming my video is infallible, just making a point. And anyway - smearing shit on people's faces? WTF? Deuteronomy 28? WWWTTTFFFFFFF???
Once again, let me assure my critics that I know christian doctrine rather well, and that I've read the counter arguments, for ex this one regarding whether or not God keeps a record of wrongs:
http://www.gracecentered.com/does_God_keep_records.htm
I know you can point to all sorts of examples of God being nice - but that's kind of the point, isn't it. There are examples of niceness, and also of the worst and most appalling cruelty. I'll happily admit the former, I have nothing to lose from it. Just please admit the latter, without making shit up out of thin air about how those traits of this god are less important. The old testament is fucking BRIMMING with them. God must have been very deliberate in seeing to it that those elements of his character were recorded and preserved in such VOLUME!

And yes, that's my clunky organ playing.

Sorry to those who very kindly and generously volunteer to translate and subtitle these into other languages - it's really not going to work with this one, I guess, given that there's text already all over the page.

There, that's your lot for now. Now leave me alone so I can go back to being busy with other things!

  • @jaythecommish ''Ok what is profoundly evil about Christianity?''.. Lol there is just way too many points to be made here so Message me if you wanna know and ill give u an entire list of why i HATE religion as a whole, not just Christianity, but ALL religions.. I find Christianity illogical and meaningless. And disgusting in some aspects..

  • Because of love, salvation came for God Himself is LOVE...♥

  • @jaythecommish And no, i cant argue with someone who has a mindset into the bible so much that they cant see outside and other perspectives other than THE BIBLE.. Good day..

  • @jaythecommish Its clear from this argument that you are not understand what im getting at. You say Zeus is a made up god im saying YOUR god is ALSO a made up god. The bible doesnt make it any more true than the greek holy books does to Zeus. Also, ive heard hindus say SHIVA has impacted them personally.. The bible isnt offensive. I think its a story book. Why would a story book offend me ? What makes me upset is when people base their LIVES and actions on a story book..

  • @Vikramthewhite Ok what is profoundly evil about Christianity? What is sickening? Here is food for thought. The Bible (Jesus) is offensive to those who don't believe. So if it offends you , then you are a non-believer. What is it? the concept of Hell? The Old Testament? Homosexuality is a sin? Does this bother you? Lets go to email with this. This comment stuff is old with all the stupid entries we have to make everytime we comment.

  • @Vikramthewhite others helps to overcome fears, overcome myself and my bitterness. Worshiping God is obedience to what he says. Micah 6:8 says, "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" Obedience is the ultimate measure of love to someone else who is in authority over you. Why the hatred towards the God of the Bible? Does He force himself on you? I don't think so.

  • @Vikramthewhite Jesus has impacted me personally. When I have daily choose to serve Christ He has impacted my relationships, I have become a much better giver, lover, friend, brother, father, husband, neighbor. Putting what he says in the bible into practice has never failed. What He says in the Bible is true...His words when put into practice are true..Loving your neighbor as yourself will never fail. Serving others never fails. Loving your enemies? Difficult, but very rewarding. Forgiving..

  • @Vikramthewhite there is no evidence Zeus was real nor any other god of mythology. These were made up gods. The truths of the Bible are what seperate Jesus from others. The actual commands, prophecies, etc. You act like I have not read the Bible. The bible is put together in such a way as 66 books/letters over 3500 to 4000 years time. It spans a great deal of time and has been studied and gone over time after time. Historians have picked it apart time and time again.

  • @jaythecommish Zeus is the one true father of gods. You quote the bible ill quote the Homeric epics and Hesiod's works.. This topic wont get anywhere unless you prove evidence and prove YOUR god.. You have the same evidence as Zeus and Allah and Brahma and so on. You dont have anymore proof than they do..
