KUTV was never ABC, we used to be NBC, but the switch came a few years before 1997, so no worries. Besides, most TV stations, regardless of ownership or affiliation, keep their archives locally. Time, decay, and space affect our archives more than business matters.
Also, for something like a museum I'm sure KSL would be happy to let you use their stories, too. As for this report, they have the DVD already.
Both KSL and KUTV did nightly progress reports on the 150 year re-enactment wagon train. They were duplicating 110 days to ZIon of the original vanguard company. To reach Salt Lake by evening of 23 JUL 1997 they would have been crossing Iowa in the first weeks of April. Try KSL too 801-575-5555.
Salt Lake station KUTV is no longer an ABC affiliate; they're now CBS. They may have had to leave their morgue with ABC when they shifted affiliation. You can try 801-973-3000 to get fair use rights to use this broadcast.
