This is an excellent video. Shows what it's like being out there which is what I was looking for as I'm going to be trying it this winter. :)

usually when it gets snowy like this I bike in the paths left by the car tires. Makes it a little easier.

**note to self- buy studded tires for this winter**, I really want to start cycle commuting again and was always sidetracked by the onslaught of winter, this video proves there's no excuse not to ride, thanks again!

Wahh-wah...gas prices are sooo high...boo-hoo, we need fuel made from corn, even if people starve because we can't go anywhere without our big heavy automobiles.
Yeah right...keep peddleing and shooting.

I keep thinking about building up a winter-specific ss, but... too many hills. :)

How much do studded tires go for?

They vary by the stud type and tire size, but roughly around $40 and up. They should last you a few years, depending how much you ride and what you're riding on.

I couldn't tell from the video, do you have studded tires or just straight knobby rubber? I've done a little snow riding and I was able to survive without studs ...barely!! Great video!!

I do have studded tires - both front and rear. :)
I use Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires which have carbon steel studs. Schwalbe also makes a good studded bike tire, and they also use carbon steel now (they used to just use hardened steel.)
