@210482fmj I doubt if what you're saying is true considering GE and RR were at logger heads when the GE-90 and Trent 8104 were being developed. The last thing they would've wanted to have done was to have worked on a joint project together

they had plans for an even more powerful engine to be released than the ge90-115b and it was a joint effort between GE and RR but it got cancelled due to funding problems and such.

many ports probably didnt have the capability to accept the normal 747 and needed modifications never mind a complete double decker

One of the original designs for the 747 was a double decker, like the A380. That was rejected as being too cumbersome, with airports unable to load the aircraft effectively. In a sense, the 747 paved the way for the A380 by making airports accept huge aircraft....you're welcome Airbus.
