  • have you tried vr on short lenses? i have 18-105vr... at 105mm, the most of shots with 1/80s are sharp so it's just one stop of improvement... but at 18mm, i get sharp pics even with half of sec ;) then again you wrote "not necessary" and "not strictly needed", basicly what i had on my mind :)
