소말리아 해적 소탕작전 떠나는 4500t급 문무대왕함

한국군 역사상 첫 전투함 파병으로 기록될 청해(靑海)부대가 13일 임무지역인 소말리아 해역으로 출항, 대양해군으로서의 첫발을 내디뎠다.

한국 선박의 해상 안전 보장 임무를 부여받은 청해부대의 첫 파병함정인 한국형구축함(KDX-Ⅱ) 문무대왕함은 이날 오전 진해 군항에서 출항 환송식을 가졌다.

환송식은 파병신고, 지휘봉과 태극기 수여, 격려사, 함정 환송 등으로 진행됐으며 이명박 대통령이 행사에 직접 참석해 장도에 오르는 청해부대 장병을 격려했다.

이 대통령은 격려사에서 이번 소말리아 파병은 유엔 안보결의안에 따라 해상 수송로의 안전을 위한 국제적 노력에 동참하는, 우리 해군전투함으로서는 첫 해외 파병이라며 ＂평화유지활동(PKO), 대테러, 재난대비 등 세계 평화와 안녕을 위해 맡아야 할 우리 군의 국제적 책무가 점점 커지고 있다＂고 말했다.

이 대통령은 대한민국은 이제 받는 나라에서 주는 나라로, 따라가는 나라에서 이끌어 가는 나라로 성장하고 있다며 청해부대는 이역만리 바다에서 대한민국 국민의 생명과 재산을 지키고 세계평화와 안전보장에 기여할 것이라고 강조했다.

청해는 해상무역을 통해 통일신라를 부흥시켰던 장보고 대사가 완도에 설치한 해상무역기지인 청해진에서 따온 명칭으로, 해군의 해양수호 의지를 상징한다.

청해부대는 바레인에 있는 연합해군사령부(CFM)와 공조해 해적 차단 및 테러 방지 등의 해양안보작전 임무와 소말리아 인근 해역인 아덴만을 통과하는 한국 선박의 해적 피해를 예방하는 활동을 주 임무로 한다.

청해부대는 4500t급인 문무대왕함, 대잠헬기(LYNX)와 고속단정(RIB) 각 1대와 특수전 요원(UDT/SEAL)으로 꾸려진 검문·검색팀 30명 등 모두 300여 명의 장병으로 구성됐다.

문무대왕함에는 분당 4500발을 쏴 6㎞ 앞으로 다가온 미사일을 명중시킬 수 있는 근접방어무기인 30㎜ 골키퍼 2문과 32㎞까지 포탄을 날릴 수 있는 5인치 함포 1문, 함대함유도탄인 하푼 8기, 함대공유도탄인 SM-2 32기를 각각 장착하고 있으며 장병용 개인화기인 K-1, K-2 소총도 다수 확보하고 있다.

대잠헬기에는 K-6 중기관총 1정과 공대함 유도탄(Sea Skua) 4기, 대잠어뢰(MK44)1기가 장착되어 있다. 헬기는 3시간가량 공중임무를 수행할 수 있다.

시속 99㎞의 속도를 자랑하는 고속단정은 전장 8.5m, 폭 3m로 15명이 탑승할 수 있다. 문무대왕함 함장인 장성우(46.해사39기) 대령이 청해부대의 제1대 부대장을 맡게 됐다.

청해부대는 우선 바레인에 있는 CFM에 도착해 미국 5함대사령부 해안경비대로부터 적법한 검색절차 준수와 현지 문화, 증거수집 요령 등을 교육받은 뒤 다음 달 중순께 아덴만 해역에 도착해 선박호송 임무를 시작할 예정이다.

문무대왕함은 4개월가량 임무를 수행한 뒤 같은 KDX-Ⅱ급인 충무공 이순신함, 대조영함, 왕건함, 강감찬함, 최영함 중 1척과 임무를 교대할 예정이다. 청해부대의 파병활동 시한은 올 연말까지다.

@skyvilla Ok... I full heartedly agree with you that S. Korea must be responsible for defending herself without US intervention.... Now, you know that N. Korea, China, etc.. have nukes and long range missiles... etc.. and S. Korea doesn't... NOT because of lack of technology or money... BUT because of the "treaties" with US.... US should leave S. Korea... but before these stupid treaties should also be removed...

South Korea is many times more powerful then the North but the South is lazy and too coward to do the right thing. South Korean politicians have become too fat expecting Americans to do everything for them. South Koreans have become accustomed to American assistance and money. Yankees do not belong in South Korea.

Update. South Korea got their butts kicked again by the North's artillery bombardment. South Koreans should be very ashamed of themselves for doing nothing. South Koreans are cowards. South Koreans are such cowards they need Americans to protect them. I would puke everyday if South Korean soldiers were stationed where I live. North Korea has nukes but they do not know if they work. Their last test was a fizzle. South Korea needs to grow a pair and protect themselves without big brother USA!!!!!!

@skyvilla I understand what you are saying, but the situation is much more complicate than you think. N.Korea do possess nukes and they can bombard S.Korea and Seoul - the capital city and the heart of South Korea - in just a few minutes due to the geological proximitity of their military bases around the 38 zone. The U.S. navy and the airforce later joined South Korea to support them and to solve this problem by taking much more aggresive approach, but even they couldn't do anything so far.
