my -83 240D has only 335000kms and even after 3 years of sitting it works like it just came out of the factory! starts and runs great on 3 year old diesel and oil. going to change it though.. :P still the best cars!

@EssexBoy696969 That would be a good idea for poorer countries where the mercs still today are being used (and that have a couple of million kms)

my S124 230TE has 173k miles, runs great!

I adore my W123 also. Compared to the sterile, boring, unimaginative designs of today, the W123 is THE TRUE LEGEND in motor engineering.
I wonder - I SERIOUSLY wonder - why Mercedes don't bring the damn thing back out - no flashy 21st Century specification, just the raw 1970/80's technology that people can trust for it's unequalled comfort, style & reliability.
I'm sure it would sell millions across the World from other motorists sick and tired of Japanese, French and Ford dross.

I definitely agree, under the strict command of not doing anything with the looks. This very concept of modernizing old vehicles without changing the design is a very cool idea, my current W123 is a bit like that, it has an engine from the W124 series, which is equally solid, but has more power, uses less fuel and is quieter. The main problem, as far as I know is the fact that old cars aren't that aerodynamic, in a society where we have to strive for better fuel economy that might be an issue.
