Family planning is a critical upfront investment to good maternal health. This educational video from Every Mother Counts explores how family planning affects maternal health around the world.
@beck77009 I understand your point of view, but the "saving yourself for marriage" idea is not necessarily popular in all cultures. Most of teenagers all around the world have sex, and it is SO important to teach them the consequences of that as well as effective methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies and STDs. I don't think abstinence is the answer, it should be a possibility among others... especially for hormonal and curious teenagers. The only imposed element should be information... :)
@beck77009 Sure, I agree that abstinence should be taught, but ALSO how to practice safe sex. Abstinence-only teachings have been proven to be very ineffective. Raging hormones are hard to contain, so it's important to teach teenagers how to prevent pregnancies.
You really want to help these girls? Teach them, and their male counterparts, abstinence! It's 100% effective! And not immoral or unethical in any way. The only downside...sacrifice, by abstaining until you're married. It's amazing how much we try to invent answers (contraceptives), when we all KNOW that the REAL answer is the easiest...it just happens to be the one that comes with the most PERSONAL sacrifice. Better to make a personal sacrifice than push your burden on the community...
