They are a chain of islands off the Alabama coast. They were hit VERY hard by hurricane Ivan.

the bridge only sat about 15ft above water. if you add the 5-7ft. waves on top of the 12-13ft surge you can understand how the spans were dislodged

Data from the National Weather Service and the NHC have the highest gust in Pensacola at 104mph. According to the NWS, the anemometer at Pensacola broke around 1:30 a.m., or about 30 minutes before the eyewall moved onshore.
