Can't use links on youtube unfortunately but to put it simply it doesn't matter how powerful the laser is, it's just an organized array of photons, it's basically a lot of light making a lot of heat and the shield system on the enterprise is impervious to laser weaponry. This is covered in the series when a primitive ship with laser weapons attacks them. The lasers simply do nothing. Hence phasers and photon torpedoes being the weaponry of the modern ships in the Star Trek universe.

So why wouldn't a laser capable of destroying a planet do nothing against the Enterprise's shield system? I'd seriously like to know.

The planet destroying beam is a laser. It's a very powerful laser made up of 8 smaller lasers but a laser none the less. Amplified light energy is nothing against the Enterprise's shield system.
