Framework agreement signed at G11 summit in Jordan

A framework agreement on economic cooperation has been adopted at the G11 Summit in Jordan. Georgian Finance Minister Kakha Baindurashvili has signed the intergovernmental document. The agreement implies economic and trade relationships between countries.

King Abdullah II of Jordan attended the signing ceremony. The king personally introduced the Croatian and the Georgian presidents. Mikheil Saakashvili delivered a speech at the summit. The president talked about the ways of overcoming the world economic crisis, the current changes in the country and the attractive investment environment. Mikheil Saakashvili said, Georgian is facing the economic crisis, although the situation there is not so hard as in other countries. Georgia has overcome corruption, created energetically stable system, secure net for gas transition, reduced taxes. The country will continue the reforms in the future in order to achieve complete liberalization of the economic system. Also, the president said social reforms will be carried out in order to turn Georgia into as open and transparent country where the principles of the market economy will be protected according to the current world economic system.

Before the G11 Summit started, Mikheil Saakashvili had held several bilateral meetings. The Georgian president talked with Senator John Carey of the new US administration behind closed doors. After the meeting the senator explained the priorities why the Obama administration chooses Georgia as a strategic partner. They talked about the conflicts and the results of the Russian aggression. John Carey reiterated the new administration`s support to Georgia and said the financial aid allocated to Georgia will be continued in the future.

`We discussed the economic development, we discussed the economic situation. We obviously discussed the security situation in Abkhazia, Ossetia. And we are particularly ready to be helpful in terms of economic assistance. I am working with my colleagues in Senate, with the administration to make sure, that the full amount of money that we had committed to Georgia will be coming`, John Carey said. He also added the US established relations with Georgia, as a democratic country and its democracy is being seriously pressed. These are the difficulties, Mikheil Saakashvili and his team are facing, the senator said.
