Leaves that touch other leaves that are still connected to trees do not decay, so you could have 200 leaves in a row as long as on one end theres a log block (not planks)

BTW i believe leaf blocks will not decay if they are within four spaces of a block of wood.

As for what to put up on the platform, how's about a glassed in lookout tower with a jacuzzi.
