I have a 20 year old RES. it's like a family petloom! my cousin found chushy in her shoe so she decided to keep him. she passed it to my aunt(her mom) and then my aunt gave it to my mom and then she gave it to me!

Well, I let Sheba out, but most of them shouldn't be let out because they can get scared. I have had Sheba for over 20 yrs so she is not scared at all (plus, I make sure to keep an eye on her so nothing happens to her). I don't have any cats or dogs either so she isn't in any danger. Yes, they will pick up hair if they walk around the house, but that's sometimes good because then I don't have to clean the floor. :)

Hey,
I currently have 6 RES, the oldest being around 17 years old. Was wondering for how many hours do you let Sheba roam around the house? And do you put her back in her enclosure after?

Congrats on your 17-yr-old RES! They are awesome when they get older. :) I let Sheba out for maybe 4 hours at a time then put her back in her 90-gallon tank. Keep in mind that in nature, they often sit on logs in the sun for up to 8 hours though.

don't you worry that she will pee on the floor as you have carpets everywere? i wish i could do that with my turtle but he's only 2 yrs and could easily turn over on his back :O!! there are alot of places were he could go in my house and he's a runner so i might not find him after quite some time so i don't dare do it

She pees/poops right after she eats, so as long as I don't put her on the floor right after that, she is fine for many hours. She has LESS accidents than my friends who have dogs/cats. Plus, she is so big that she doesn't get lost. :)
