News Digest 2008 of Russia

*Russia, following Saudi Arabia is one of the largest countries that possess natural oil. While Vladimir Putin aimed to rebuild a "strong Russia", many Russians received benefit from the growing economy caused by the soaring price of energy resources. For the past 8 years during Putin's presidency, Russia has emerged from the great financial crisis. The GDP growth averaged more than 7 percent, the number of poor decreased by half and the average salary increased from 80 dollars to 640 dollars. The 42 years old Dmitry Medvedev was sworn in as the Russian president and nominated Putin as the new prime minister. Medvedev has promised to strengthen the economy and to shift the country to a more democratic direction but has been following the steps of Putin, his long time mentor. Russia is keeping the hard line in forcing of military actions in the Caucasus region, the key transit point for oil, and halted the vast gas pipeline through Ukraine. It is said that the strategy is starting to go wrong by the crashing stock price and financial drop out triggered by the crisis in the U.S.

I love how in every video involving Russia/China, it's people bashing Western world and on videos about USA or UK, it is always people bashing the Eastern world.

I also love how people want Russia/China in the Super-Power without knowing they'll be just as bad as Britain was when it was a super-power and USA/USSR was when it was a super-power.
