Air Traffic Controller Anne Gerson guides a Russian plane to safety

Flight Lieutenant Anne Gerson, an Air Traffic Controller, is just two weeks into the job when she spots a Russian plane in danger in a stormy sky over Kinloss, Scotland. She uses her skills to guide the plane to safety and ends up with an award from Downing Street!

Air Traffic Control Officers use radar and communications equipment to guide some of the most modern aircraft in the world. They ensure that all our aircraft depart and arrive safely, and also work with civilian air authorities to ensure safe travel for any aircraft using their airspace. I often think that aircrews ( mil. and civvy ) just don't realise how hard ATCs and their assistants work at controlling the skies. Good work Anne!
