@shedworx I notice the app seems to run only on a single core. Could you possibly adapt it for multicore/multithreaded support? A speed boost would be really, really useful.

is this similar to Handbrake?

@Coxfame Voltaic is different to Handbrake. Handbrake uses a DVD decryption library to rip copy protected DVDs. Handbrake also includes FFmpeg to convert videos. FFmpeg is capable of lower quality (but faster) conversions of AVCHD movies, but not to the codecs required for editing.
VoltaicHD does not use FFMpeg for video conversion and also uses Quicktime to support final conversion into any Quicktime supported format.

Is there any hope for converting faster? I converted 24mbps 1080p video that had a 3:2 pulldown, removed the pulldown putting it into Quicktime at the highest quality settings, it took 8 hours to convert 20 mins of video. Is that the fault of QuickTime or could VoltaicHD possibly convert any faster?

@MattTrevett Voltaic is not the faster converter out there, but it is the best quality, especially which dealing with high quality video. We quote figures of 12x the video duration for conversion, and that is assuming a relatively new Mac (i.e. less than 2 years old). You video is one of the highest quality settings available, so can be greater than 12x the video duration.
We don't have any plans to increase the speed of Voltaic. We will continue to focus on quality and all AVCHD variants.
