Actually, Savate (pronounced sah-vat) is older than many asian forms. It bears very little relation to karate, other than it's about punching and kicking your opponent. The punches are different, the kicks are very different. Saying it copies techniques is just plain wrong. The punching comes from "standard" English boxing and the kicks hit with the toes, not the ball of the foot. Ip Man, you're just showing your ignorance.

Don't wear the suits then... Wear pro wrestling long tights or trackpants, a sleevless roundneck shirt, knee pads and elbow pads with savate boots it will look less gay and a lot cooler.

Every martial art is dangerous, right now im doing Muay Thai and im planning on learning alot more like savate, chinese kemo, Bjj and wing tsun/ wing chun i dont exactly know which one it is -_- In the end martial arts help everyone in defending themselves and boost their confidence to me :D also a great form of discipline!

of course some martial arts will look similar, the human body has two arms and two legs for everybody.

Let me tell you that Karate is derived from Kung Fu. Okinawan traders brought kung fu to Okinawa. It was very popularly adopted when Japan took over Okinawa and the people had to defend themselves from exploitation by the Japanese Samurais. That is true. If I may add, it was earlier used by sailors. The kicks were not direct, but they used to touch the ground for balance as it is hard to keep balance on a rocking ship. Then, when riots arose, people adopted to this style of martial art now-a-days known as Savate. It literally means "Old Shoe". People also used their canes which they always used to carry as a weapon.

The players' boots are tipped with hard metals on ankle and toe hence kick with ball of the foot.
