Launched in September of 1988, this groundbreaking ad was part of the first campaign to use the word "condom" in America. The ads informed Americans of the dangers of the AIDS virus and encouraged them to "Help stop AIDS. Use a condom."

  • It's been 20 years since I saw this but it's always stayed with me. Thanks for uploading it, I like to think that these ads played some part in saving lives.

  • One proffessor's research does not make speculations facts.

  • @littlesongbird1

    you mean pill?

  • great acting kid

  • Correct..I hate to say it but I think that too many people rely just on the bill for birth control and don't think about disease prevention.

  • Yes, but he's one of the relatively few doctors who feel this way. The current general consensus amongst the World Health Organization (WHO) is that condoms, when used properly, greatly reduces the risk of transmission, although it does not completely eliminate the possibility.

  • Senior Harvard AIDS Prevention Researcher Dr. Edward Green

According to Dr. Green, science is finding that the media is actually on the wrong side of the issue. In fact, Green says that not only do condoms not work, but that they may be exacerbating the problem in Africa.

Dr. Green found that part of the elusive reason is a phenomenon known as Risk Compensation or Behavioral Disinhibition.

  • Guess releasing the bogus wasn't such a good idea after all.

  • didn't britney spears have a purity ring

look how great she turned out.... thats probably how most of todays young stars will be in the future sadly

  • Well, abstaining is still the only 100% way to make sure one doesn't get STDs, though condoms have almost that high a success rate. Just so you know, I'm not abstinence-only because that won't work. (Religious conservatives are actually more likely to not use condoms and other contraceptives and become pregnant than non-religious liberals.)

And about the Jonas Brother's purity rings, let's just see how well they do. I don't think they're going to stick to their commitment.

  • The problem is that you might get AIDS from someone you think you know well.
