my way of removing cosmoline. There might be other methods some people feel more suitable to their needs. This is just how I do it.

  • Put the parts into an oven and melt them off. It will ruin the oven but hey, it's for the 2nd amendment.!

  • @glennwih yes that works great my wife will shoot me if I did that and I dont have an oven at the moment in the man cave.

  • did you have any Cosmoline inside the barrel ? and what about the wood ?

  • @anemalxj yes i switched ends in the tub and soaked overnight cleaned right out with like 70 patches. lol as for the wood I switched stocks so I didnt do the wood. Best way is to sweat it out in the sunlight and wipe down every hr or so or use a mild soap and set it over a tub of hot water (really hot) and the steam will rise the cosmo to the surface just wipe and scrub. dont want to submerge in water.Ill try to pm you a vid that might help. works good to steam small dents out as well.

  • kerosene GOT IT That took 2 seconds . not 7:03

  • @peterm3964 yes but I bet it takes you longer than 2 seconds to clean all the cosmoline out of a firearm. say at least 7:03 or probably longer.

  • Mineral spirits work also as a non-flammable indoor friendly alternative to kerosene

  • So this begs the question.

What happens if you throw a f*cking match into the tote (provided it was fireproof). Maybe I'm just giddy that I'm holding my new nugget, but it seems to me that it would ignite the cosmoline along with the kerosine and it'd just be a matter of wiping off the soot. o.O

  • Kerosene does wonders for stuck antique sewing machines also - to make it a little easier and use less kerosene I use a piece of 4 inch pvc pipe capped on one end for the barrel to soak in, plus you can run a brush through while submerged for added cleaning.

  • I just used a similar method on my mil-surp gun. Instead of kerosene I used 1 QUART DX330 ACRYLI-CLEAN PPG. Luckily my bn was able to contain the length of my barrel. For the small parts I let it soak in my cleaner for 15 minutes then submersed them in boiling water for another couple minutes (repeated if necessary). All of the cosmoline was removed from the entire gun in less than an hour.
