"The Hut-Sut Song" played on my Kimball Electramatic player piano.Words and music by Leo V. Killion, Ted McMichael & Jack Owens. QRS Roll #7438. Played by: Walter Redding (a pseudonym used by J. Lawrence Cook at QRS)
This is a catchy tune that became popular during WW2. Look on YouTube for other versions of this song.

  • I picked up this roll at an antique mall in Caloma, MI a few weeks ago. It was in surprisingly good shape for it's age and looked like it had not been stored properly for years. Antique shops are generally not a good place to buy piano rolls unless the dealer has been able to test them. I took a chance and came home with three near perfect 65 year old piano rolls at 3 bucks a pop. This title was a rare find indeed and worth more than 3 bucks!

  • Yup... a spinet does not offer the fullness of an upright wherein an upright does not offer the fullness of a grand. This Kimball actually sounds a lot better in person than it does in this horroble recording environment. The hammers are a little hard as well.

  • @pm0501 Actually I didn't think the video sounded too bad! Funny, considering when I was little, player pianos really creeped me out (I found it unsettling to see a piano playing by itself).

  • @GreenTea200 Yes and it was also a big hit for Freddy Martin and His Orchestra, not to mention it was sung by Horton, The Elephant in the Warner Brothers' cartoon version of Dr. Seuss' "Horton Hatches The Egg".

  • Love this song!

  • nice roll, but these small pianos dont sounds as nice as a full upright, to tinny sounding to me :)
