A brief overview of the build, and maiden launch of my first cedar strip canoe. It is a copy of a Chestnut 14" Fox. Plans were from Red River Canoe and Paddle. It took me just under 6 months to build. I capsized on the first outing, which pleased me greatly. I wanted a canoe that would test its master and make me a better paddler. I highly recommend this design for a solo canoe.

  • Awesome! Am considering building a stripper for the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic - mainly because you can't buy a decent sized open water fast canoe here in Oz.

  • @FatPaddler . I can recommend plans for an 18 foot marathon canoe weighing 12 kg,

and can give much advise, but be warned it takes so much labour!

  • Did you name the boat?

  • @YouAmYeknur , I just call her "the Cedar Strip"

  • exellent video the music is great, how is the name an the player?

  • @rikar040404 , Hi. The name of the track is " Acoustic Sunrise". I do not know the name of the writer or performer, as it is a track available on the imovie software I used to edit the video. As far as I know it has no copyright.

  • If anybody is thinking about building a canoe but is put off by having to buy cedar, pine can be used. Went looking at the Home Depot and they've got this premium pine that is knot free and comes decent lengths, though you will have to scarf the boards before ripping them into strips. This is especially true if you plan to paint your canoe rather than varnish.

  • Well, I'm sure you have since figured out basic canoe paddling techniques.. It's no wonder you tipped..

  • thanks for the reply.

I'm trying to buid a little dinghy with this technique, I hope to stay as your canoe
