I wouldn't be so sure about that.
Mark is just as right as anyone who claims that they would need it, it's all about preferences.
I have the 3D controller, I purchased it for a few of the games that were a pain in the ass to use the default controller with, but Nights is one where I actually play better with the original controller.

The Saturn is my favorite console of all time. Extremely good system very underrated and with awesome imports, a ton of games to play

@DrunkenMasterWarrior Mark isnt quite right when he says he don't need the 3D controller.
it will work with the normal controller, but it doesn't control very well with it, its not accurate enough , and makes the gameplay considerably frustrating.
so while you don't need the 3D controller, its the only way to play the game properly.
its a worthy purchase though because it works with quite a few other games on the Saturn (mostly later ones obviously)
