In 2006 having toured the world over in support of their 'Takk' album, Sigur Rós returned home to play a series of free, unannounced concerts in Iceland. 'Heima' is a unique record of that tour filmed in over 15 locations across the island, taking in the biggest and smallest shows of their career.

Following the recent World Premiere in Reykjavik, Sigur Rós are currently on a 'whistle-stop world tour' of film festival screenings, occasionally accompanied by an intimate live acoustic performance from the band - check the list of confirmed screenings.

'Heima' received it's UK Premiere on October 24 at Cecil Sharp House, North London as part of the BBC's Electric Proms. The band played a 45 minute acoustic set with Amiina which can be seen in its entirety here. This event is followed on November 5 by a further special screening and shorter acoustic performance at the BFI Southbank and regional screenings.

Following a successful screening at the New Yorker Festival on Sept 6, the film received its west coast premiere in Los Angeles with a series of screenings from Nov 1st through Nov 3rd including AFI Fest.

'Heima' is released as a two disc DVD set, with disc one featuring the 97 minute tour documentary / film, plus a bonus 'Producer's Commentary' by band manager John Best, whilst disc two includes almost two hours of full length live performances (with different edits to those used in the film) and further extras.

There will be a special edition of 'Heima' available including a 116-page photo book in deluxe packaging. For more detailed information including production notes and a tracklisting for disc two, visit the official film homepage at www.heimafilm.com.

HVARF-HEIM
'Hvarf-Heim', the companion record, has two titles because it is in effect two separate, but complementary, entities, with two front covers (see below) and a limited run of two discs. Open it one way and it's 'Hvarf' ("disappeared" or "haven"), a five track electric studio record comprising mainly unreleased rarities from Sigur Rós's back-pages, none of which is on 'Heima'. Open it the other way and it's 'Heim' ("home"), a six track live acoustic record, comprising delicate new unplugged versions of some of Sigur Rós's best moments, which have never been performed before.

  • I watched Heima last weekend. Its an outstanding film. Here I was expecting to see some pretentious musicians talking about their music, when really they are just a group of normal people wanting to give something back to their beautiful country.

Sigur Ros are the best band of all time.

  • Their music is simple.....

But its like in every single second..... you are in heaven just listening to it... its fantastic the way they play, its like they just play and..... there it is............

I would like them to go to the Philippines and have a concert there... I would go!!!!!!!

    Sigur Ros is the best............

They play their music in perfect harmony....

    Like Angels with Amiina.......

    and playing for their country.....

They're great.... You can't tell negative things, Its great

  • @ginkgonk122 I know, they talk as if they were just a "garage band".

    Really love their music!

  • Me and my friend went hiking in Iceland this summer because of this band, it really is an incredible country, Reykjavik is really nice but it is the countryside which is so amazing. I've never seen anything like it, even in pictures.

P.S. Listening to Untitled 8 when you're walking through the plains and valleys of iceland is the most incredible thing you can ever do. Go there and try it! (Altho it is so expensive we couldn't afford to eat much, we just took vodka with us and got smashed)

  • whats depressing is all the unnecessary stress and corruption we have to deal with in America. Iceland seems like a much simpler place to me. what I would give to live in such a beautiful, peaceful place.

  • Ég elska Ísland og það tónlist. :3

  • They're called 'brushes', and they don't make such a harsh sound as a regular drumstick.

  • Icelandic culture is so beautiful!.

  • lol I thought Sigur Ros was a girl

  • I get chills everytime I hear their music.

  • it's a drumstick holaho

  • the stick the drummer's using is kinda strange to me, does anyone have any idea what it is called?
