  • He says tree tops instead of teapots!

And I agree, Norma Farnes was a great manager for Spike and Eric, getting them work in their eighties, despite the BBC's apparent embargo on both of them

  • He would change the words every time -and then say..

'its funnier -I pull rank - I won a life time award for comedy!'..

so we let a few things slip by! and most of the time he was right

  • Frankly I would have let him get away with anything, notice the way Paul Merton let him put almost everything in Room 101. He was much admired, but also, I think, very loved.

  • I think the Paul Merton Room 101 was Spike at his best -he got on with Paul and did not try to stitch him up -

Spike would play up if he had no respect -he hated fools.

Spike respected Paul and Paul respected Spike -great show that one

  • Just realised -Nicky ( director ) says.. ..'we are doing silly verse for kids..' -Correct Title 'Nonsense verse' -Nicky was a very pretty girl -so she got away with it !

Spike did like pretty girls -but you can hear his brain tick when she says it !

  • a true great and a one off.spike is very much missed by many people.even in death he kept his humour, his gravestone says "see, told you i was ill".if you get a chance read the book his manager wrote about her relationship with him.brilliant book.

  • I agree, Norma Farnes ( his manager ) gives good and funny background on life with Spike. She is quite a character in her own right. She still managers Eric Sykes.

  • I did this on stage at a school christmas show age 5...it took a few years until I finally understood why all the adults were cracking up!

  • :D!!!!!!!!!-happy dance-

  • Amazing that he sounds somewhat old and tired until he gets into the poem, then it's fifty years before!

  • dundee

  • class there be

  • Took this to school, when i was like 7. Half way through i couldn't carry on and fell over laughing.

  • Silly Verse For Kids was the title of one of his books of poems. In fact it was almost the only poetry I liked as a child!
