HOW ARE THINGS IN GLOCCA MORRA?
Music: Burton Lane; Lyrics: E. Y. Harburg © ca. 1949
From the musical "Finian's Rainbow."
I hear a bird, a Londonderry bird.
It well may be he's bringing me a cheering word.
I feel a breeze, a River Shannon breeze.
It well may be it's followed me across the seas.
Then tell me, please,
How are things in Glocca Morra?
Is that little brook still leaping there?
Does it still run down to Donny Cove,
Through Killybegs, Kilkerry and Kildare?
How are things in Glocca Morra?
Is that willow tree still weeping there?
Does that laddie with the twinklin' eye
Come smilin' by? And does he walk away
Sad and dreamy there, not to see me there?
So I ask each weepin' willow
And each brook along the way
And each lad that comes a'sighin' "Too-ra-lay,"
"How are things in Glocca Morra
This fine day?"
LOOK TO THE RAINBOW
M: Burton Lane / L: E. Y. Harburg © 1949
From "Finian's Rainbow"
On the day I was born, said my father, said he.
"I've an an elegant legacy waitin' for ye.
'Tis a rhyme for your lips and a song for your heart,
To sing it whenever the world falls apart.
Chorus:
Look, look, look to the rainbow.
Follow it over the hill and the stream.
Look, look, look to the rainbow.
Follow a fellow who follows a dream.
Follow a fellow, follow a fellow,
Follow a fellow who follows a dream.
'Twas a sumptuous gift to bequeath to a child.
Oh, the lure of that song kept my feet runnin' wild,
For you never grow old if you never stand still,
With the whippoorwill's song just beyond the next hill.
(Chorus)
So I bundled my heart and I roamed the world free,
To the east with the lark, to the west with the sea,
And I searched all the hills and I scanned all the skies,
Till I found it at last in my own true love's eyes.---
In this video, Genie (Wilde-Notes Music) sings these songs for a happy hour at Fairwinds Retirement in Redmond, WA, with the audience joining in on choruses.
@GENEKRUPA1935 "Look To The Rainbow" is a waltz. And comparing a happy-hour sing-along medley (yes, people were singing along, but they didn't have the mic) to a Broadway performance is rather apples v. oranges.
As for stylngs & "feeling," check out Sammy Davis Jr & Julie Andrews singing "Glocca Morra" & others from Finian's Rainbow (it's here on YouTube). Very different from Maureen Hegarty's styling, but I love it. I've heard many different excellent versions of these songs.

CORRECTION:
The captions on the video itself may list E Y Harburg as the composer and Burton Lane as the lyricist. If so, that's backwards.
Harburg was a major American lyricist, for pop, jazz songs & show tunes, including collaborating with composer Harold Arlen on the songs for the 1939 movie "The Wizard Of Oz" & writing lyrics for "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?"
"April In Paris," "Cabin In The Sky," and "It's Only A Paper Moon."

@kimpalmerful You're welcome.
The musical score for "Finian's Rainbow" is excellent. You can probably find the video of the movie version, starring Petula Clark and Fred Astaire (as the leprechaun "Og") pretty easily too, if you want to hear the whole thing.
The lyricist, E. Y. "Yip" Harburg, is the same guy who wrote the lyrics for "Over The Rainbow" (and all the songs for The Wizard Of Oz) and "Lydia, The Tattooed Lady" (Groucho Marx's theme song).
