  • Tapping Questions -- Part III

I want to avoid using those hand-tapping sets as I may have to do a lot in the future.

Now, as far as reversible head, what causes the head to automatically reverse? Is it that flat piece that touches the vertical rod next to spindle? When does it trigger the reverse mode? I did get one that was made from India, during my first try, it smoked instead of reversing, so I had to return it.

I appreciate any help ...thanks all. Sorry for those long questions.

  • Tapping Questions --- Part II

Most of the time I get a drilled hole with no threads. If I am lucky, I will get the bottom half of the hole threaded, but not the entire hole. I set it up to various speed levels from very very slow, to mid level speed (1000 rpm). I was told the reason I can not get the tap is because the bit was slipping. It doesn't matter how much I tighten the wrench around the chuck or the collet. Do I have to get a tapmatic head to use with the machine?

    Tapping Questions-- Par 1:

    Hi all,

I just bought an Acer e-mill machine for my home shop. I am new in this field, but very excited to get my hands dirty so to speak because I come from an IT world.

Anyway, I have been trying to tap some holes on the e-mill using some OSG tap bits, I have tried using a chuck drill that comes with an R8 collet, and also tried using a regular collet to hold the bit. I can't seem to get a good tap.

    wow neat tapping the screw,,,

    how about hand drill cordless

  • @kw757 The Tapmatic heads have an adjustable torque limit: When adjusted correctly (depending on the tap diameter), this will prevent breaking the tap.

  • Sometimes, when hand-tapping steel, you have to back it off to break the chips to prevent breaking the tap. How do these things deal with this issue? Thx!

  • I just bought one today. Hope it does everything I want

  • how the hell does this work? doesnt the speed need to be really exact? im surprised it doesnt just drill it when your doing it by hand

  • Arm mounted power tapping machines are great, if you need them and have the cash for it. Just because something is old doesn't mean anything as long as it gets the job done. One thing is for sure I can't tap a hole by hand as fast as that attachment can.

  • hi, where do I get that tapping attachment? I need to automate my manual tapping. How do I get started, hope to hear from you soon.

    Nice Vid
