I love when people call a Pontiac motor a big block. Pontiac have a small journal and a big journal crank. A 400 is small journal. Let's compare the Firebird and the Boss 302. The firebird has a small hyd 407 lift cam vs the 302 solid lift cam, a cast iron and qradrajet for the firebird and an alum with a holley for the 302. The firebird probably outweighs the Mustang by 600 lbs being a convertible. Boss 302's were good running cars but it was built as a racing engine but wasn't street freindly.

98 more cubic inches and wins by .10 seconds. Not to shabby.

@Hawk6DM that boss302 held up well but if that was a boss429 it would have really gotten wasted, boss429s were slow as hell in street cars. now a 351C or a 429 would have been very different

@Hawk6DM Not necessarily some of the Ram Air 400s were running in the 12s

@mercmarc I think he was making the arguement that 400 CID against 302 CID is not really a fair matchup. The 302 did hold it's own pretty well though. If it had been a 351 Cleveland or a 429, it would have been all over for the Pontiac.

@joejunior93 Pontiac didnt have a small block or big block. All the blocks from 326-455 were the same size externally.
