One of several cash-in singles released by Ed Chalpin, the man who thought he was Hendrix's manager until he realised Jimi had fled to England with Chas Chandler.
Prior to that, Chalpin had teamed Jimi up with producer Curtis hoping he would groom him to stardom in the US.

  • @TheBrowndawg I have this vinyl in mint. still sounds beautiful

  • This actually isn't bad. Hendrix messed up, tho'. Gave Chalpin extra ammunition.

  • Bernard Purdie on the drums (uncredited).

  • aint heard this for 20 years or more, its still great!

  • does the intro sound like the intro to the song 1983 to anyone else???

  • Oops, that was December 1964 not 1994!

  • The person who posted this has some of the facts incorrect. I was with Curtis Knight for 16 1/2 years and also worked for Ed Chalpin about 6 years. Curtis is the man who discovered Jimi Hendrix, provided him with an amp and guitar, invited him to play with his band Curtis Knight and the Squires, in December of 1994. He later took Jimi to meet Ed Chalpin and record in his studio. Ed Chalpin was Curtis Knight's manager at the time. As a result PPX signed a production agreement with Jimi.

  • That's Bernard Purdie on "Flashing". Of all the players on that session, Purdie was the most well-known. Curtis remembered Hendrix was excited to meet the highly regarded drummer and was reported to have asked Purdie "Hey man, did you bring your signs?" - referring to the famous "You done hired Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, the little old hit maker" advertisement, which Purdie would proudly display beside his kit during sessions. When Purdie produced the signs, Hendrix laughingly exclaimed "Far out!”

  • Happy Birthday Jimi
