I love summer picnics, but I hate all the waste! Paper plates, plastic forks, styrofoam, and bottled water are all dumped into a trash can and then usually end up at landfills. So this summer, I've decided to lessen my carbon footprint. And this being New York, it wasn't hard to find the perfect place for all my eco-friendly shopping needs. I visited Sustainable NYC, a chic green boutique in the Lower East Side.

The store is bursting with eco-friendly products from clothing to housewares. Owner Dominique Camacho showed us all the must-haves for a green picnic -- my personal favorite is compostable dessert plates made from sugar cane! You can even pick up some yummy organic treats at their in-store cafe, a Ciao for Now outlet.
