Notes by Charles Rosen:
The Soirées de Vienne is the sixth and most famous of Liszt's transcriptions of Schubert waltzes. It was one of Rosenthal's favorite pieces. Liszt later made a fussier version, but I prefer the first; the extension of Schubert's melodies is done with great refinement, and we have here the beginning of the great series of Viennese waltz transcriptions.

  • banging/harsh sound, and lacks the waltz rythm feeling

  • "Allegro con strepito" means "fast and boisterous" & "sempre ff e marcatissimo" means "always very loud and played with extreme emphasis"

  • @arturon111 If you don't understand such music, better not say anything. :)

  • nagyon eredeti, sok helyen vitatkoznék vele,de szív van venne.ez elvitathatalan

  • brilliáns zongorista

  • @arturon111 bofferbings is right of course PLUS we are talking Liszt here, no mushy glidng over the parquet for this one.... stomping EGO ..... so IMO Rosen has it exactly right (I heard it played in a recital only last evening and in the same manner - Lisztwise )

thank you, BofferBings, for this brilliant recording!

  • Heard Kissin's rendition at his Verbier 2011 Liszt recital...what a variety of touch...!

  • I love it :D

Ill try playing it. should not be too hard ;)

  • BB, you are correct. When the composer or arranger indicates how the piece is to be played, it is hard to contradict.
